Patient Rights and Responsibilities

At Positive Steps ABA, the welfare, rights, and needs of the children and families we serve take precedence over all other interests. We are dedicated to providing access to care that is safe, respectful, ethical, and centered on each child. This commitment extends to understanding the patient rights of our families and the family responsibilities that support us in delivering the best possible care.

Patient and Family Rights

Every patient and family has the right to:

Be safe and free from abuse, neglect, exploitation, and any other mistreatment while exercising their patient rights.

Be treated with respect and dignity, regardless of background, ability, or identity, acknowledging their responsibilities as a family.

Receive services free from discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, religious affiliation, sex including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity, or other protected characteristics, ensuring fair access to care.

Receive timely, clear communication about their child's care.

Participate in decisions about their child's care, including the development and review of the treatment plan, which reinforces their patient rights.

Be informed about the qualifications, credentials, and experience of the providers serving their child.

Give informed consent to services, and to receive the information needed to make informed decisions that align with their family responsibilities.

Decline or withdraw from any service or participation at any time.

Access quality, medically necessary services appropriate to their child's needs, reinforcing their right to access to care.

Experience continuity of care, including appropriate coordination, transitions, and referrals.

Enjoy privacy and confidentiality of their child's protected health information, consistent with PSABA's Notice of Privacy Practices and applicable law.

Access and request copies of their child's records, and request corrections, as provided by law.

Benefit from transparency in billing and their financial responsibility.

Receive treatment using the least restrictive effective procedures, free from the use of seclusion.

Raise concerns, complaints, or grievances without fear of retaliation, and be informed of how to do so, as part of their patient rights.

Patient and Family Responsibilities

To ensure the best possible care and access to care for their child, patients and families are asked to:

- Provide accurate and complete information regarding their child's health, history, and circumstances.

- Attend scheduled sessions and participate actively in their child's services, including caregiver involvement, as part of their family responsibilities.

- Communicate any concerns, changes, and scheduling needs in a timely manner to uphold their patient rights.

- Follow and support the treatment plan and recommendations developed in collaboration with their child's clinical team.

- Meet their financial responsibilities for services rendered.

- Treat PSABA staff, other families, and other patients with respect.

- Adhere to PSABA's policies, procedures, and clinic rules.

How to Raise a Concern

If you have a concern about your child's care or your patient rights, you may speak with any PSABA staff member, the Operations Director, or the Owner and Founder. You can also submit a concern confidentially, including anonymously, through PSABA's Complaint and Grievance Form at https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/hJyDJGSbjK. This ensures that family responsibilities are respected while also promoting access to care. PSABA does not retaliate against anyone who raises a concern in good faith.
